2008 Highlights : 11TH KEM MERDEKA

Kem Merdeka is one of the 'compulsory' annual event held by Sabah Scouts to commemorate the significance of Malaysia's Independence Day celebrations.

In order to nurture their awareness and appreciation towards patriotism, participants of this camp will be exposed to traditional games, songs, general culture and old scout traditions which has long been forgotten. In every camp, one traditional handicraft will be selected as the camp's theme and participants will be given hands-on training in mastering them and these newly acquired skills will be tested in events and competitions that follows later on during the camp.
Kem Merdeka also served as intensive marching training grounds for 180 Scouts that will be participating in the state's National Day Parade through 5 contingents of Sabah Scouts enrolled every year in the said event.
The highlight of Camp merdeka is the Flag Raising ceremony by the State Chief Scout Commissioner at midnight on the eve of Malaysian Independence Day.
